FORT WAYNE, IN. (THECOUNT) — Quincy English, 44, of Fort Wayne, has been arrested after police say he struck and killed a pedestrian with a borrowed motorcycle Sunday night in downtown Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.
According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers responded around 7:50 p.m. Sunday, October 4, to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash on Lafayette Street near Wayne Street. An adult male pedestrian was found suffering from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim had not been officially identified by the coroner as of Monday.
Police say surveillance video captured the motorcycle traveling northbound on Lafayette Street before striking the pedestrian as he crossed the street. Investigators say the motorcycle continued north after the collision, leaving the scene.
English was subsequently identified as the motorcycle’s driver and taken into custody. He was booked into the Allen County Jail and faces preliminary charges of leaving the scene of an accident causing death, criminal recklessness and obstruction of justice.
Court records reviewed by investigators indicate the motorcycle was not owned by English. Police located the registered owner during the investigation, and the owner told officers that he had loaned the motorcycle to English.
While the owner and his wife were speaking with police, they allegedly received text messages from English roughly two hours after the crash. According to court documents, English instructed them to report the motorcycle as stolen as soon as possible.
Investigators later located English at his girlfriend’s home and brought him in for questioning.
According to the court documents, English told investigators he had been looking away while attempting to determine whether he could change lanes. When he looked forward again, he allegedly realized he had struck the pedestrian.
English allegedly told police that he parked the motorcycle and walked back toward the crash scene, where he saw first responders performing CPR on the victim. He then left and went home, telling investigators he did not know who he was supposed to speak with at the scene.
Police also determined that the motorcycle had sustained damage consistent with the collision and located it near South Lafayette Street and East Berry Street, according to court records.
The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team handled the investigation with assistance from the department’s Street Crimes Unit. Investigators also reviewed surveillance footage and other evidence gathered from the crash scene.
English is scheduled to appear before a judge Wednesday in connection with the case. The charges are preliminary, and English is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
Fort Wayne, the county seat of Allen County, is in northeastern Indiana near the Ohio border and is the state’s second-largest city. The fatal crash occurred in the city’s downtown area near Lafayette and Wayne streets.
