JACKSON, MS. (THECOUNT) — Jerry Crump Jr., 36, has been identified as the man found fatally shot early Thursday morning in Jackson, Mississippi, as police investigate a homicide in the 2800 block of Woodside Drive.
Officers with the Jackson Police Department responded to the area at approximately 12:47 a.m. on September 24, 2026, following a report of a deceased person, according to authorities and local media reports.

When officers from Precinct One arrived at the scene, they found Crump suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the location, police said.
Investigators located multiple shell casings near the victim as they worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Hinds County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and took custody of Crump’s body.
Crump’s next of kin has been notified, according to police.
Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the killing. Investigators said the suspects were reportedly traveling in an older-model, dark-colored Dodge Charger at the time of the shooting.
Police have not released additional information about how the shooting began, whether the victim and suspects knew one another, or what may have led to the violence. A motive has not been announced.
Investigators were continuing to follow up on leads and gather evidence as the case remained active.
