RUSSELL COUNTY, AL. (THECOUNT) — Alexander Harvey, 36, of Omaha, Georgia, has been identified as the man killed Monday afternoon when the 2002 Chevrolet Corvette he was driving left the roadway and overturned in Russell County, Alabama, near the Columbus, Georgia, area.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. Monday, September 21, on Cottonton Road near Briar Creek Road in Pittsview. The crash location is approximately 25 miles south of Phenix City in Russell County.

Preliminary information indicates that Harvey was driving the Corvette when it left the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned. Authorities said Harvey was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle.
Harvey was pronounced dead at the scene. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has not released additional information regarding the circumstances that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
Troopers assigned to ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are continuing to investigate the crash. Officials have not announced whether roadway conditions, speed, a medical emergency or another factor contributed to the collision.
The crash occurred on Cottonton Road in rural Russell County, southeast of Phenix City and across the Chattahoochee River region from Columbus, Georgia. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as troopers complete their review.
