TORONTO, ON. CAN. (THECOUNT) — Vanessa Kurpiewska, of Toronto, Ontario, has been identified as the victim killed in a double-stabbing in a Toronto subway station on Thursday.

Kurpiewska, 31, was killed, and an unidentified female injured, in a random stabbing at the High Park subway station on Thursday afternoon. Neng Jia Jin, 52, has been identified as the suspect arrested and charged with murder.

According to reports, the women were at the station near Bloor St West and Quebec Avenue, when for unknown reasons, Jin stabbed them both around 2 p.m. Thursday.

Kurpiewska was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead of stab wound injuries.

The other unnamed woman, 37, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from the hospital.

Jin was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with first degree murder and attempted murder. He is due to appear in court on Dec. 9.

Police say that the suspect and the victims did not know each other, insinuating the attack was random.
