WORCESTER COUNTY, MA. (THECOUNT) — Erin Kodys MacKay of Templeton, Massachusetts, has been identified as the victim in a freak accident in Worcester Count on Wednesday afternoon.
MacKay, 42, a first-grade teacher at Forest Avenue Elementary School in Hudson, was killed after a large tire and rim entered the windshield of her vehicle while on MA-2 on Wednesday.

According to reports, MacKay was operating a Jeep SUV on George W Stanton Highway near Mt Elam Rd in Fitchburg, when a wayward tire and rim smashed through the windshield of her vehicle around 1 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle then exited the roadway and wrecked.
MacKay was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.
Officials have not determined the origin of the tire.
Forest Avenue Principal David Champigny released the following statement on the tragic accident:
“Not only was Erin a mother to her own children, she was a mother to countless others in our school community. She was an amazing educator, and above all else, a kind and caring person,” Champigny wrote. “We are deeply saddened by this loss and know this will be a difficult time for our students, families, and staff. As a school community we are here to support Erin’s family and our larger school family.”
The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.
