BANNOCK COUNTY, ID. (THECOUNT) — Doctor of philosophy, Paul Phillip Bregitzer, of American Falls, Idaho, has been identified as the victim in a Sunday afternoon avalanche in Inkom, Idaho.

“Phil” Bregitzer, 59, was killed after being caught in an avalanche around 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

According to reports, Bregitzer was skiing near the Pebble Creek Ski Area when he became buried in about six feet of snow on Sunday around 1 p.m.

Ski patrol arrived and dug Bregitzer out of the snow and CPR was performed on him for about 45 minutes.

They tried to fly the man out on a helicopter, but the weather conditions would not permit it, so he was taken to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello by ground ambulance and was pronounced dead around 4:00 p.m., reports KPVI.

According to records, Bregitzer specialized in the study of Plant Biotechnology, Plant Breeding, Transgenic Plants, Genetics, Plant Molecular Biology and Plant Tissue Culture.
