ALEXANDRIA, SD. (THECOUNT) — Ashley Moe, of Alexandria, has been identified as the victim in a fatal single-vehicle, sole-occupant crash in Hanson County, South Dakota Tuesday.

Moe, 20, was operating a pickup truck traveling on an unnamed rural road approximately 6 miles north of Alexandria, when for unknown reasons, she lost control of the truck and exited the roadway.

The vehicle then rolled over before coming to a rest.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported Moe lost control of her pickup shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday on a rural road.

Moe was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

Moe attended Hanson School in Alexandria, SD. She was a prominent athlete for the Hanson Beavers, excelling and receiving many awards in volleyball, basketball, track, and cheerleading. She was the Cornbelt Conference most valuable player for volleyball in 2016 and DWU Most Valuable Player in the Culver’s Classic in 2017. All Conference in basketball and volleyball her junior and senior year. Ashley and her 4x200M relay team broke the school record in 2016. Ashley attended Girls State and was a volunteer at First United Methodist Church Vacation Bible School and Sunday School, American Legion Auxiliary, Love Feast, Big Friend Little Friend volunteer, United Blood Service donor, and a volunteer for a variety of church and community activities. She was also a member of National Honor Society, Hanson 4H and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Ashley graduated from Hanson High School in May 2017.
