HOLLYWOOD, CA. (THECOUNT) — Two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank, 52, has announced she is expecting her third child with husband Philip Schneider, three years after the couple welcomed twins when the actress was 48.

The “Million Dollar Baby” star revealed the news Wednesday, Oct. 14, in a playful family video posted to Instagram. Swank, Schneider and their twins, daughter Aya and son Ohm, danced in the dark with glow sticks attached to their clothing, creating illuminated stick figures.

The Instagram video revealed a glowing baby figure positioned over Swank’s belly, signaling the couple’s newest addition. The actress captioned the post, “A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next, this one releases in December.” The message appeared to hint at the baby’s expected arrival.

Swank and Schneider, both 52, welcomed their twins in April 2023. The actress first announced that she was expecting twins in October 2022, sharing her excitement about becoming a mother.

The pregnancy announcement has also drawn attention to the medical considerations associated with pregnancy at an older age. Dr. Kameelah Phillips, an obstetrician-gynecologist, told CBS News that pregnancy at 52 is extremely rare and can involve elevated risks.

Phillips explained that although ovarian function generally declines as women approach menopause, the uterus may still be able to carry a pregnancy with the help of in vitro fertilization, or IVF. She said women in this age group may face increased risks of gestational hypertension, preeclampsia, diabetes and cesarean delivery.

Phillips suggested Swank would likely receive care from a high-risk pregnancy team. However, Swank has not publicly confirmed whether she used fertility treatment or disclosed specific medical details about her current pregnancy.

The actress has previously spoken about the experience of becoming a parent later in life. In an appearance on “CBS Sunday Morning” following the birth of her twins, Swank reflected on how years spent pursuing her acting career had shaped her approach to motherhood.

“The beauty in it for me has been that I had the opportunity to dive deep into this dream of being an actor and now I can dive deep into this dream of being a mom,” Swank said, explaining that she felt less pulled in other directions.

Swank won Academy Awards for her performances in “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Million Dollar Baby.” She and Schneider married in 2018 and have largely kept their family life private while sharing occasional milestones with fans.

The pregnancy announcement adds a new chapter to the couple’s family life, with their twins set to become older siblings.

Hollywood, in Los Angeles, California, is a major center of the American film and television industry, where Swank built her award-winning acting career.
