OH Woman Sharlene Boykin Dies Tuesday After Sunday Youngstown Shooting

YOUNGSTOWN, OH. (THECOUNT) — Sharlene Boykin, 20, has been identified as the woman who died Tuesday after being critically wounded in a Sunday afternoon shooting in Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio.

Boykin was inside a vehicle when she was wounded around 2:30 p.m. Sunday on Cooper Street near Indianola Avenue, according to police and the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office.

Boykin was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she died from her injuries Tuesday afternoon.

Police have not released additional details about the circumstances of the shooting or identified a suspect.

Boykin’s death marks the ninth homicide reported in Youngstown this year and occurred less than 12 hours after another fatal shooting claimed the life of Bruce Clinkscale, 20.

Clinkscale was found shot dead around 4:30 a.m. Sunday after police responded to a report of gunfire near South and Detroit avenues. His death remains under investigation by the Youngstown Police Department and Mahoning County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation into Boykin’s death is also ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Youngstown police.

Youngstown is the largest city in Mahoning County in northeastern Ohio, approximately 75 miles southeast of Cleveland and about 60 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
