LOS ANGELES, CA. (THECOUNT) — Miley Cyrus has made Billboard history with her latest album, but not the kind of record an artist hopes to set: “Bass Persuades” plunged from No. 1 to No. 157 on the Billboard 200 in its second week, the biggest second-week drop ever for an album that debuted at No. 1.
The album opened atop the chart with approximately 61,000 equivalent album units, giving Cyrus her first Billboard 200 No. 1 since 2013’s “Bangerz.”

Cyrus narrowly beat country singer Ella Langley’s “Dandelion” for the top spot, with the two albums separated by roughly 70 units.

The fall also surpassed the previous record for a female artist, held by Celine Dion’s “Courage,” which dropped from No. 1 to No. 111 in 2019. Madonna’s “Madame X” had previously fallen from No. 1 to No. 77.
Bon Jovi’s “This House Is Not for Sale” made a larger numerical plunge, falling from No. 1 to No. 169 in 2018. That album, however, had been released in 2016 and returned to No. 1 under unusual sales circumstances, rather than reaching the summit with its initial chart debut.

“Bass Persuades” is Cyrus’ first album for Atlantic Records after leaving Columbia Records. Atlantic released the album in 16 vinyl variants, nine CD versions, six download versions and a cassette, while also offering a discounted digital edition.
Cyrus celebrated the No. 1 debut after Atlantic sent a floral wreath shaped like the number one to her home.
“Bass Persuades being #1 transcends a win,” Cyrus wrote on Instagram, thanking Atlantic, her team and her fans.
Her previous album, 2025’s “Something Beautiful,” debuted at No. 4 with approximately 44,000 equivalent album units before falling to No. 102 in its second week.

“Bass Persuades” is Cyrus’ sixth Billboard 200 No. 1 album and her first chart-topper in nearly 13 years.
Despite the album’s steep chart decline, Cyrus is preparing for two sold-out Hollywood Bowl performances scheduled for Oct. 16 and Oct. 18. Nearly 1.5 million people joined the online presale queue for a chance to purchase tickets to the roughly 18,000-seat shows.
Cyrus has not embarked on a full tour since her 2014 “Bangerz” world tour, although she has previously teased the possibility of a residency.
Los Angeles, where Cyrus will perform at the Hollywood Bowl, is the largest city in California and the center of the nation’s second-largest metropolitan area.
