Sources close to the family told TMZ that Scales died around 2 a.m. Thursday, October 1, in Atlanta. The sources said he had been dealing with heart-related problems, but his official cause of death has not been disclosed.
Braxton and Scales married in December 2019 in St. Louis after connecting through mutual friends. Their relationship and wedding were featured on the family’s reality television programming, including The Braxtons.
Scales was also part of Braxton’s life following the 2018 death of her first husband, Gabriel “Gabe” Solis. Braxton and Solis had married in 2003, separated in 2013 and finalized their divorce in 2015. Solis died in December 2018 at age 43.
Braxton and Scales continued their relationship in the years that followed, with the couple appearing together publicly and documenting aspects of their life on social media.
In 2025, Braxton shared videos of the couple working out together as part of a fitness routine. Scales remained active on social media in the period leading up to his death.
The Braxton family representative said Thursday that the family appreciates the thoughts and prayers being offered following Scales’ death but is asking for privacy as they navigate the loss.
Scales’ death comes as the Braxton family remains in the public eye through The Braxtons, the WE tv reality series featuring Trina and her sisters.
Atlanta is the capital of Georgia and the seat of Fulton County, forming the center of the state’s largest metropolitan area. Scales died in the Atlanta area, according to family sources.
