PUEBLO, CO. (THECOUNT) — Stephen Biggs, 41, a Pueblo Police Department corporal, has been identified as the man who died following a wakeboarding accident Sunday at Lake Pueblo State Park in Pueblo County, Colorado.
Biggs, who was off duty at the time, went missing around 5:30 p.m. Sunday after the boating accident in the Peck Creek area of the park, according to officials. A search continued for several hours before his body was located early Monday morning.

The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Marine Evidence Recovery Team used an underwater robot to locate Biggs’ body in nearly 50 feet of water. His body was found around 2:45 a.m. Monday.
Multiple agencies assisted with the recovery effort, including the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office and Pueblo West Fire Department.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
Biggs had served with the Pueblo Police Department since October 2010. During his career, he served as a Patrol Training Officer and was a member of the department’s SWAT team.
According to the police department, Biggs received 10 letters of commendation, three Medal of Valor awards and the Distinguished Service award during his career.
Pueblo Police Chief Chris Noeller described Biggs’ death as a deeply personal loss for the department and praised his courage, dedication and commitment to fellow officers.
The Pueblo Police Department said Biggs’ patrol car will be parked in front of the department at 200 South Main Street for members of the public who wish to pay their respects.
Lake Pueblo State Park is located west of the city of Pueblo in Pueblo County, about 45 miles south of Colorado Springs. Peck Creek is located in the western portion of the park, where the search and recovery operation took place.
