HARPERS FERRY, WV. (THECOUNT) — Nicole Ellen Taylor, 55, has been arrested and charged in connection with the deaths of her husband, Robert Hayne Taylor III, 56, and their daughter, Cynthia Allison Taylor, 21, nearly one year after a house fire at the family’s Harpers Ferry residence in Jefferson County, West Virginia.
According to the West Virginia State Police, Taylor faces charges of first-degree murder, first-degree arson and use or presentation of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Investigators allege that Robert and Cynthia died before the home was intentionally set on fire.

The incident occurred on September 30, 2025, at a residence on Blackberry Lane in Harpers Ferry. State police and Jefferson County Emergency Services responded to the home at approximately 9:02 a.m. to assist with a residential structure fire.
When authorities arrived, the residence was heavily engulfed in flames. Taylor escaped the burning home with significant burn injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to a regional burn center for treatment.
Responding authorities discovered two deceased occupants inside the residence. They were later identified as Taylor’s husband and daughter, both of Harpers Ferry.
An extensive investigation was launched involving the West Virginia State Police, the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, also known as the ATF.
Investigators subsequently determined that the fire was an act of arson and that both victims had died before the fire began, according to state police.
Authorities said Robert Taylor had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and that investigators developed information connecting Nicole Taylor to his shooting death and the subsequent fire at the residence.
Police have not disclosed how they believe Cynthia Taylor died. Investigators have also not publicly released additional details about the circumstances surrounding her death or the evidence that led to the charges against her mother.
The case remained under investigation for nearly one year following the fire. State police said the investigation was conducted by Trooper First Class C. S. Barrett, with assistance from the State Fire Marshal’s Office and ATF personnel.
Taylor was arrested on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, and subsequently arraigned. She was remanded to the Eastern Regional Jail, where she is being held without bond.
The arrest represents a significant development in an investigation that initially began as a residential fire response. Authorities have not publicly detailed the full timeline of the investigation or disclosed all evidence supporting the charges.
It is not currently clear whether Taylor has entered a plea or retained an attorney to represent her. The allegations against her have not been adjudicated in court, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
