KANAWHA COUNTY, WV. (THECOUNT) — Roy Day, 68, of Hurricane, and Alison Straughter-Ross, 58, of Nitro, have been identified as the two people killed Monday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash on the Dunbar Toll Bridge in Kanawha County, West Virginia.
The South Charleston Police Department confirmed the victims’ identities following the collision, which involved four vehicles, including the two involved in a head-on crash.

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 3:10 p.m. Monday on the Dunbar Toll Bridge. The bridge connects communities in the Charleston metropolitan area and serves as a major crossing in the Kanawha County region.
Day and “Tootie” Ross both died as a result of the collision. Police have not released additional details in the preliminary information regarding the circumstances that led to the head-on impact or the sequence of events involving the other two vehicles.
The total number of people injured in the crash, along with the extent of any injuries involving occupants of the other vehicles, had not been confirmed in the initial report. Authorities also had not announced whether any citations or criminal charges were expected.
The South Charleston Police Department is handling the investigation. Investigators are expected to examine the movements of all four vehicles and the circumstances surrounding the head-on collision as they work to determine the cause of the crash.
