NEW YORK, NY. (THECOUNT) — Daria Serkov, 15, has been identified as the teen killed Friday night when the bicycle she was riding collided with a commercial truck in Manhattan’s East Village, according to the NYPD.
The crash occurred around 9 p.m. at East 14th Street and First Avenue, near Stuyvesant Town on Manhattan’s East Side. A second teen, 16, who was riding on the bicycle with Serkov, was also injured in the collision and transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.

Police said a 2021 Peterbilt commercial truck, driven by a 58-year-old man, was making a right turn onto northbound First Avenue when it collided with the bicycle.
The two girls were also turning north onto First Avenue when the crash occurred, according to investigators.
Serkov was transported to Bellevue along with the other teenager. Despite efforts to save her, the 15-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
The second teen suffered injuries and was reported in stable condition.
The truck driver remained at the scene following the collision. No arrests had been made, and police had not announced any charges as the investigation continued.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remained under investigation. Authorities have not indicated that impairment was involved, and additional details about the moments immediately before the collision had not been released.
Assembly Member Keith Powers, who represents the area where the crash occurred, responded to the deadly collision in a post on X.
“Absolutely horrifying. My thoughts are with the two victims and their families,” Powers wrote.
“We must do everything we can to increase safety on our streets and ensure nothing like this ever happens again,” he added.
The fatal collision occurred in the East Village, a densely populated Manhattan neighborhood known for its mix of residential buildings, businesses and heavily traveled streets. First Avenue is a major north-south route through Manhattan, while East 14th Street connects the East Village with neighborhoods farther west.
Police had not released additional information about the bicycle, including its make or model. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to establish the precise circumstances of the collision.
