JOHNSTON, RI. (THECOUNT) — Nicholas Nevola, 59, of Cranston, Rhode Island, died Thursday night after a motorcycle crash on Route 6 in Johnston, according to Rhode Island State Police.
Rhode Island State Police responded around 8:45 p.m. to Route 6 West near the I-295 South on-ramp after receiving a report of a motorcycle crash.

According to the preliminary investigation, Nevola was operating a motorcycle westbound on Route 6 when he missed the on-ramp, struck a bridge abutment and then crashed into a highway sign.
State police said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Nevola was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. He was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not released additional information about what caused Nevola to miss the on-ramp. The preliminary investigation remains ongoing, and investigators have not indicated that another vehicle was involved.
Route 6 is a major east-west roadway crossing northern Rhode Island, while Interstate 295 serves as a major bypass around the Providence metropolitan area. The crash occurred near the interchange between the two highways.
Police have not announced any additional injuries or other significant property damage resulting from the crash.
The investigation remains active as state police work to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
Johnston is located in Providence County in northern Rhode Island, approximately 5 miles northwest of Providence.
