VIOLET TOWNSHIP, OH. (THECOUNT) — Bailey Johnston, 28, died early Saturday after the Hyundai Sonata she was driving the wrong way on U.S. Route 33 collided head-on with a Chevrolet Colorado in Pickerington, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The driver of the pickup, a 21-year-old man, suffered serious injuries in the crash.
Pickerington is located in Fairfield County in central Ohio, southeast of Columbus. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lancaster Post is leading the investigation into the fatal collision.

According to troopers, the crash occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, near mile marker 5 on U.S. Route 33, close to the intersection with Lockville Road.
Investigators said Johnston was operating a 2016 Hyundai Sonata westbound in the eastbound lanes of the divided highway when the vehicle collided head-on with an eastbound 2022 Chevrolet Colorado.
Johnston sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 21-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Colorado suffered serious injuries in the collision. Emergency responders transported him to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment. Authorities have not released his identity.
Troopers remained at the scene for several hours documenting evidence and investigating the circumstances surrounding the wrong-way crash. Officials have not announced what caused Johnston to enter the eastbound lanes, and no additional information regarding contributing factors has been released.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal collision. Assisting at the scene were the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Bloom Township Fire Department.
