NY Woman Ileana Cabrera ID’d As Pedestrian In Sunday Bay Shore Fatal Vehicle Strike

BAY SHORE, NY. (THECOUNT) — Ileana Cabrera, 29, of Bay Shore, New York, was killed early Sunday morning after she was struck by a vehicle while walking in the roadway on Third Avenue near Second Street in Bay Shore, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. The vehicle was driven by Edwin Ortez, 26, of Bay Shore, who was not injured in the crash.

Bay Shore is located in Suffolk County on Long Island, east of New York City along the Great South Bay. The crash occurred in a residential and commercial area of the community as Suffolk County police investigated the circumstances surrounding the fatal pedestrian collision.

The crash happened at approximately 1:10 a.m. Sunday when Cabrera was in the eastbound lane of Third Avenue near Second Street, according to investigators. Police said she was struck by a 2009 Nissan operated by Ortez.

Cabrera was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore following the collision. Despite emergency medical efforts, she was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.

Ortez remained at the scene following the crash and was not injured, according to police. The Nissan involved in the collision was impounded for a safety check as investigators continued their examination of the vehicle and crash circumstances.

The Suffolk County Police Department Third Squad is leading the investigation into the crash. Detectives have not released additional details regarding the circumstances that led to the collision.
