OWOSSO TOWNSHIP, MI. (THECOUNT) — Robbie Kennell, 22, of Owosso, Michigan, was killed Sunday evening after a motorcycle crash on North Chipman Road in Owosso Township, according to the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said preliminary findings indicate extreme speed was likely a contributing factor in the fatal collision.
Owosso Township is located in Shiawassee County in mid-Michigan, approximately 35 miles northeast of Lansing. The crash occurred on North Chipman Road just south of Cronk Road.

Deputies, firefighters, and emergency personnel responded to the scene at approximately 7:36 p.m. Sunday following reports of a serious motorcycle crash.
According to the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation determined Kennell was operating a 2005 Honda CBR-1000 motorcycle northbound on North Chipman Road when the motorcycle left the east side of the roadway.
Investigators said the motorcycle continued through a steep ditch before striking several trees.
Responding deputies located Kennell at the crash scene and determined he had sustained fatal injuries.
Authorities said he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office reported that Kennell was the sole occupant of the motorcycle.
According to preliminary findings released by investigators, extreme speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash. Officials have not released additional details regarding the events leading up to the collision.
The investigation remains active as authorities continue examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal wreck.
The Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Owosso Police Department, the Owosso City Fire Department, and Shiawassee County Central Dispatch.
Officials have not announced whether additional findings or investigative conclusions will be released at a later date.
