LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (THECOUNT) — — Jordan Tyler Gray, 30, London, Kentucky, drowned Thursday evening while attempting to swim across a cove at Laurel Lake in Laurel County, Kentucky.
Gray was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, crews responded to reports of a drowning near Cox Road on Laurel Lake. Witnesses told investigators that Gray had attempted to swim across a cove when he began to struggle and went underwater. He was not seen resurfacing.
Fire crews used an underwater drone to locate Gray’s body, which was recovered around 7:20 p.m. Thursday. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is handling the investigation into the drowning.
Laurel Lake is a large reservoir located in Laurel County in southeastern Kentucky. The area near Cox Road is a popular spot for boating and swimming during warmer months.
Officials have not released information regarding possible contributing factors, such as water conditions or whether Gray was wearing a life jacket. The investigation remains ongoing.
No other individuals were reported to be in distress during the incident. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
