PICKENS COUNTY, SC. (THECOUNT) — Demetrius Rashad Johnson, of Anderson, South Carolina, was killed and two other people were injured in a head-on crash Sunday morning in Pickens County, located in the northwestern corner of South Carolina near the Georgia and North Carolina state lines.

According to Pickens County Coroner Andrew Wilson, the fatal collision occurred Sunday morning near 226 Pendleton Road.
Investigators said two vehicles collided head-on under circumstances that remain under investigation by the Pickens County Coroner’s Office and the Clemson Police Department.
Johnson, who was driving one of the vehicles, suffered multiple blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.
Officials said Johnson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The two occupants of the other vehicle were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released their identities or disclosed the extent of their injuries.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene, where the roadway was closed while investigators documented evidence and cleared the wreckage. Officials have not released additional details regarding what may have caused the head-on collision.
Pickens County is located in northwestern South Carolina, bordering the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and situated between Greenville and the Georgia state line. The area includes several heavily traveled state highways connecting Upstate South Carolina communities.
The Pickens County Coroner’s Office and Clemson Police Department continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Additional information is expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
