VA Man Kenny Wingfield ID’d As Victim In Sunday Floyd County Fatal Motorcycle Crash

FLOYD COUNTY, VA. (THECOUNT) — Kenneth Martin Wingfield, of Roanoke, Virginia, was killed Sunday morning after the Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was operating collided with a Chevrolet Cruze and a Range Rover in a three-vehicle crash in Floyd County, located in southwestern Virginia.

“Kenny” Wingfield was 69.

According to Virginia State Police, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 9:58 a.m. Sunday, June 21, along Floyd Highway (U.S. Route 221), about two-tenths of a mile south of King Store Road.

Investigators said Wingfield was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Floyd Highway when, for reasons that remain under investigation, he crossed the center line into the southbound lane.

State police said the motorcycle first sideswiped a southbound Chevrolet Cruze before colliding head-on with an oncoming Range Rover.

Wingfield suffered fatal injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Wingfield was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The occupants of the Chevrolet Cruze and Range Rover have not been publicly identified, and their conditions were not immediately released by investigators.

Floyd County is located in the Blue Ridge Highlands of southwestern Virginia, approximately 40 miles southwest of Roanoke. The area is well known for its scenic mountain highways, including Floyd Highway, a popular route for motorcycle enthusiasts traveling through the Appalachian region.

Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the three-vehicle crash.
