HIGH POINT, N.C. (THECOUNT) — Julissa Duarte, 20, and Kevin Sanchez, 22, both of High Point, North Carolina, were found dead Thursday night inside an apartment in what police are investigating as a domestic-related murder-suicide.

According to High Point police, officers responded to Eastchester Ridge Apartments on Chester Ridge Drive to conduct a welfare check after someone reported they had not heard from Duarte in several days.

When officers arrived at the apartment and received no response at the door, they looked through a window and observed a person lying on the floor inside the residence.

Police then forced entry into the apartment and discovered Duarte and Sanchez deceased from gunshot wounds.

Investigators said preliminary findings indicate Sanchez fatally shot Duarte before turning the gun on himself.

Authorities noted the pair had previously been in a dating relationship.

The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact time and cause of death.

High Point Police Department officials said the incident is being investigated as a domestic-related homicide.

High Point is located in Guilford County within North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad region, approximately 15 miles southwest of Greensboro.

The Guilford County Family Justice Center said support services remain available for victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, and child abuse.
