WAYNE TWP., OH. (THECOUNT) — Jeffrey Knerr, 53, of Canton, Ohio, died Tuesday night following a collision involving a Nissan passenger vehicle and a Peterbilt commercial truck in Wayne Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the fatal crash occurred around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of State Route 93 and U.S. Route 250 in Beach City, Tuscarawas County.

Investigators said Knerr was operating a Nissan southbound on State Route 93 when the vehicle failed to stop at a posted stop sign.

The Nissan then entered the intersection and collided with a Peterbilt commercial truck traveling along U.S. Route 250.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced Knerr dead from injuries sustained in the collision.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Knerr was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Troopers also indicated impairment is believed to have been a possible contributing factor in the collision.

The driver of the Peterbilt truck was not injured.

Investigators remained at the intersection overnight documenting evidence and reconstructing the crash scene.

Wayne Township is located in Tuscarawas County in eastern Ohio, southwest of Canton and near several major freight and transportation corridors.

Authorities have not released additional information regarding toxicology results or other possible contributing circumstances.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
