TROY, MO. (THECOUNT) — Mason Hammett, 22, was identified as the victim killed early Sunday morning in a head-on collision along Highway 47 in Troy, Missouri, according to the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred around 5 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Highway 47 and Two Pine Drive in Lincoln County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to reports of a serious two-vehicle collision involving vehicles that crashed head-on along the highway.

Emergency personnel arriving at the scene located heavily damaged vehicles blocking portions of the roadway.

Authorities later confirmed Hammett died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

Officials have not yet released additional information regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash.

Investigators also have not disclosed whether additional occupants or drivers suffered injuries.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office remained at the scene Sunday morning conducting the ongoing investigation.

Highway 47 was shut down in both directions for several hours while emergency crews documented evidence, cleared debris, and removed damaged vehicles from the roadway.

The highway was reopened to traffic shortly before 10 a.m., according to officials.

Highway 47 serves as a major transportation route through portions of eastern Missouri and carries local commuter and commercial traffic through Troy and surrounding Lincoln County communities.

The crash location near Two Pine Drive includes rural and semi-rural roadway stretches where visibility and traffic speeds can vary during overnight and early morning hours.

Authorities have not announced whether speed, impairment, distraction, weather conditions, or roadway factors may have contributed to the deadly collision.
