ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. (THECOUNT) — Dean Patrick Lewis, 58, of Catawba, North Carolina, was killed Tuesday night in a single-motorcycle crash along Rink Dam Road in Alexander County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Rink Dam Road and Fess Little Road in Taylorsville.

Troopers said Lewis was operating a motorcycle southbound on Rink Dam Road when he lost control of the bike and collided with a mailbox.
According to investigators, the motorcycle overturned during the crash sequence, ejecting Lewis from the vehicle.
Authorities confirmed Lewis died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
Officials stated no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Investigators said speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the deadly crash.
Emergency crews responded to the rural roadway shortly after the collision was reported.
Rink Dam Road remained closed for approximately two hours Tuesday night while troopers conducted the on-scene investigation and cleared the wreckage.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding whether Lewis was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the fatal collision.
