ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (THECOUNT) — Joseph Ray Clardy, Jr. has been identified as the victim in a fatal motorcycle crash early Friday morning in Anderson County, according to authorities. Authorities identified the involved DUI driver as Nelson Daniel Cooley.
The collision occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. Friday, May 15, on Highway 413 at Haynie Drive near Belton in Upstate South Carolina.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Clardy was operating a motorcycle traveling toward Belton on Highway 413 when the fatal crash occurred.
Investigators said a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction attempted to make a left turn onto Haynie Drive and entered the motorcycle’s path.
The motorcycle and pickup truck subsequently collided.
Authorities said Clardy sustained fatal injuries in the crash.
The Anderson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the motorcyclist died as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.
Officials stated Clardy was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, according to troopers.
Following the investigation, Cooley was charged with felony DUI resulting in death.
Officials have not publicly released additional details regarding evidence connected to the DUI allegation.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues leading the crash investigation.
Emergency responders remained at the scene overnight while investigators documented evidence, examined vehicle damage, and reconstructed the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
