Indiana Burglar Busted After Cell Phone Left Behind During Home Invasion

EVANSVILLE, IN. (THECOUNT) — Taquan J. Moore has been arrested and charged in connection with a residential burglary and attempted armed robbery after investigators say he left behind key personal items at the scene, including a cell phone and glasses.

Moore, 24, of Evansville, was taken into custody early Wednesday and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail. He is facing charges of Level 2 felony burglary and Level 3 felony armed robbery. Authorities say he is currently being held without bond.

According to the Evansville Police Department, officers responded to a residence on Brittany Court around 10:30 a.m. on March 10 following reports of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who reported waking up to find two masked individuals inside the bedroom demanding money and drugs.

The victim told investigators that one of the suspects searched the kitchen while the other held them at knifepoint using a blade believed to have been taken from inside the home. During the incident, the suspects allegedly stated they were “not from around here.”

Police say the situation escalated when the victim seized an opportunity to grab the knife after the armed suspect became distracted. A physical struggle ensued, moving from the bedroom into a hallway area. During the altercation, the victim reportedly pushed one of the suspects down a flight of stairs.

Both suspects then fled the residence, leaving the scene in what was described as a silver vehicle.

Crime scene detectives later recovered several items believed to have been left behind by the suspects, including two cell phones, a pair of glasses, and a brown sock hat.

According to court documents, investigators examined a white cell phone found in the bedroom and observed a lock screen image showing a man wearing a red hoodie. Officers identified that individual as Moore.

Further investigation led detectives to a video posted on Moore’s Facebook account that allegedly showed him inside a vehicle with an interior matching that of the silver car seen in surveillance footage from the area.

Authorities also compared the glasses recovered from the scene to Moore’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles identification photograph and determined they were consistent.

The victim told police they do not engage in narcotics activity but had recently posted on social media about winning money on a gambling application. Investigators have not indicated that any drugs were recovered at the scene.

A warrant for Moore’s arrest was issued on March 11. Police have not publicly identified the second suspect, and the investigation remains ongoing.
