NJ Man Scott Sanczyk ID’d As Victim In Saturday Tinton Falls Mercedes-Benz SUV Fatal Crash

TINTON FALLS, N.J. (THECOUNT) — Scott Sanczyk of Kinnelon was killed Saturday morning after his Mercedes-Benz SUV veered off the northbound Garden State Parkway near milepost 109.6 in Tinton Falls, Monmouth County, struck a guiderail and overturned, ejecting him from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Sanczyk was 20.

New Jersey State Police responded at approximately 6:12 a.m. According to NJSP Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron, the Mercedes-Benz veered left off the roadway before striking the guiderail. No other vehicles were involved.

Sanczyk was a member of the golf team at Kinnelon High School, according to published records. In 2023 he bowled a perfect game for the Kinnelon High School bowling team. Kinnelon is a borough in Morris County in northern New Jersey, situated in the Highlands region approximately 35 miles west of New York City. The community is known for its heavily wooded, suburban character and strong school athletics programs. Kinnelon High School competes in the Morris County athletic conference and has a well-regarded golf tradition among its varsity sports offerings. The school serves students from Kinnelon Borough and draws from one of the more tightly knit communities in Morris County.

The crash occurred in Tinton Falls, a borough in Monmouth County situated along the central New Jersey Shore region. Tinton Falls lies approximately 50 miles south of New York City and roughly 30 miles northeast of Trenton along the Garden State Parkway corridor. The borough borders Eatontown, Red Bank, and Neptune Township and sits within the broader Asbury Park and Long Branch Shore communities lining the Monmouth County coastline. The area around milepost 109.6 on the northbound Parkway is a heavily traveled section of the roadway during morning hours, even on weekends.

The Garden State Parkway is one of New Jersey’s most critical transportation arteries, stretching approximately 173 miles from the New York state line in the north to Cape May at the state’s southern tip. The Parkway carries tens of millions of vehicles annually and is administered by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. The northbound lanes near Tinton Falls carry significant traffic from Shore communities toward the greater New York metropolitan area, particularly on weekend mornings.

The New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit is the lead agency in the investigation. Sgt. Lebron confirmed no additional information is available pending its outcome. Investigators have not indicated whether speed, impairment, distraction, or mechanical failure played a role in the crash.

Monmouth County recorded dozens of traffic fatalities in 2025 across its network of state highways, county roads, and the Parkway corridor. The county spans roughly 472 square miles stretching from the Raritan Bay shoreline in the north to the Manasquan River in the south, encompassing both densely developed Shore communities and more rural inland townships. No funeral arrangements for Scott Sanczyk have been publicly announced.

The crash remains under investigation and no additional details have been released. Anyone with possible information is encouraged to contact the New Jersey State Police.
