NC Woman Imani Vaughn ID’d As Victim In Saturday Graham Fatal Crash

GRAHAM, N.C. (THECOUNT) — Imani Janel Vaughn has been identified as the 29-year-old woman killed Saturday night in a collision between a Jeep Wrangler and a Ford Mustang. The force of the crash sent the Jeep rolling over at the intersection of South Main Street and Moore Street in Graham, the seat of Alamance County in north-central North Carolina. Vaughn was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals were injured.

The Graham Police Department responded to the intersection at 9:17 p.m. According to GPD, a 2020 Jeep Wrangler and a 1999 Ford Mustang were involved in the collision. The crash caused the Jeep to overturn. Vaughn, a passenger in the Jeep, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Jeep, TaiSean Malachi Jones, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Mustang, Sarah Knighten, was also identified at the scene. No injury status for Knighten has been released by authorities at this time.

The crash remains under active investigation by the Graham Police Department. No charges have been announced. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Way or Cpl. Taylor with the Graham Police Department at (336) 570-6711, or contact Alamance County Crime Stoppers at (336) 229-7100.

Jones, 25, remains hospitalized. The extent and nature of his injuries beyond “serious” have not been detailed by authorities. Updates will be provided as they become available, according to the city’s statement.

South Main Street is the primary north-south commercial and civic corridor running through the heart of downtown Graham, passing City Hall and the historic Alamance County Courthouse. The intersection with Moore Street sits within the city’s core downtown grid, an area that sees moderate traffic volume on weekend evenings. The overturning of the Jeep at that location would have made the intersection impassable and prompted a significant emergency response from Graham PD and likely Alamance County EMS.

Graham is the county seat and largest municipality in Alamance County, with a population of approximately 17,000 residents. Alamance County, located in the Piedmont Triad region of north-central North Carolina, sits between Burlington to the east and Greensboro to the west along Interstate 40 and Interstate 85. The county has a population of roughly 175,000 and is part of the Burlington metropolitan statistical area. Graham is approximately 25 miles east of Greensboro, 50 miles northwest of Raleigh, and 50 miles northeast of Charlotte.

Saturday’s fatal crash marks a tragic loss for the Alamance County community. The City of Graham issued a statement expressing condolences: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones impacted by this tragic incident.” The Graham Police Department has indicated updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. No additional details about the circumstances of the crash — including direction of travel, speed, or contributing factors — have been released at this time.
