BIBB COUNTY, GA. (THECOUNT) — Michael Anthony Hill was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Hawkinsville Road in south Bibb County, Georgia, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. Hill was 43.
The fatal crash was reported to the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center at approximately 5:21 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, on Hawkinsville Road near the intersection of Avondale Mill Road in the southern portion of Bibb County.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a 2008 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on Hawkinsville Road when it struck Hill, who was riding his bicycle in the outside lane. Deputies arrived on the scene and found Hill unresponsive. Paramedics attempted to provide medical care, but Hill died from his injuries. The Bibb County Coroner identified Hill and confirmed that his family has been notified.
The driver of the Honda Civic remained at the scene following the crash. No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
Hawkinsville Road is a primary north-south corridor in south Bibb County running from the heart of Macon southward toward the city of Hawkinsville in Pulaski County, approximately 40 miles to the south. The road traverses a mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial properties, and undeveloped rural land and has been the site of multiple fatal crashes in recent years involving motorcyclists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Avondale Mill Road is a cross street in the southern Bibb County community of Avondale, a residential area located several miles south of downtown Macon.
Macon is the consolidated county seat of Macon-Bibb County, located in central Georgia approximately 85 miles southeast of Atlanta and 170 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida. With a population of approximately 157,000 residents, Macon-Bibb County is the fourth-largest city in Georgia and serves as a regional hub for healthcare, education, logistics, and commerce for the surrounding Middle Georgia area. The city is served by Interstate 75, Interstate 16, and US Highways 23, 41, and 129.
Early morning low-light conditions significantly increase the risk for cyclists and pedestrians traveling on outside lanes and shoulders of rural and semi-rural corridors, particularly on roadways without dedicated lighting infrastructure. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has urged motorists to exercise heightened awareness in predawn hours.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 and ask to speak with a fatality investigator, referencing the incident on Hawkinsville Road on the morning of March 18, 2026.
