Tragic: Husband Shoots Wife With Terminal Cancer Before Turning Gun On Himself

PLAINFIELD, CT. (THECOUNT) — John Ezzell and Christine Ezzell have been identified as the couple found dead Monday night in what authorities are investigating as a tragic murder-suicide at a residence in Plainfield, Connecticut.

John Ezzell was 62. Christine Ezzell was also 62.

According to the Plainfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home on Kate Downing Road around 7 p.m. Monday after receiving a call from a man who stated that his wife had terminal cancer and that he intended to take her life and then his own. The caller reportedly told authorities he would leave the doors of the residence open for responding officers.

Upon arrival, police entered the home and located two individuals inside suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both John Ezzell and Christine Ezzell were pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered from the residence, according to police.

Authorities secured the area as part of their response. Kate Downing Road, located less than 10 miles from the Rhode Island border, was temporarily closed between Pratt Road and Spaulding Street while officers conducted their investigation. The roadway has since reopened.

Both individuals were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsies and further examination. Officials have not yet released the official manner and cause of death pending those examinations.

The Plainfield Police Department confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public. Investigators remain active on the case as they work to finalize the circumstances surrounding the incident.

No additional details, including whether any note was recovered or further evidence documented at the scene, have been released. Police have not indicated whether anyone else was inside the home at the time of the incident. Authorities have also not provided additional comment beyond the initial statement outlining the sequence of events leading up to officers’ arrival.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Plainfield Police Department in coordination with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Officials have stated that further information will be released as it becomes available.
