SAN ANTONIO, TX (THECOUNT) — Brittani Flanders has been identified as the woman who died following a late-night motorcycle crash on the northwest side of San Antonio, Texas, Thursday just after midnight.
She was 30.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after midnight to the 9500 block of Culebra Road near Tezel Road for reports of a major accident involving a motorcycle.
Investigators say Flanders was a passenger on a motorcycle traveling westbound on Culebra Road when she fell off the back of the bike for reasons that remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet determined what caused her to fall.
Police stated that after Flanders fell from the motorcycle, the driver fled the scene without stopping to render aid. The circumstances surrounding the driver’s departure remain under active investigation, and officials have not released a description of the motorcycle or the individual operating it.
Emergency responders arrived on scene and found Flanders suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was transported to University Hospital for treatment. Despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, she later succumbed to her injuries.
The San Antonio Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident. Detectives are working to determine the full sequence of events, including the speed of the motorcycle at the time of the crash, road conditions, and whether any additional vehicles may have been involved or witnessed the incident.
Authorities have not released further details regarding the driver who left the scene. It remains unclear whether the driver and Flanders knew each other or what led up to the fall. Police have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that information may change as additional facts are gathered.
The 9500 block of Culebra Road, near the intersection of Tezel Road, was temporarily impacted while officers secured the scene and conducted their preliminary investigation. Motorists in the area experienced delays as emergency crews worked to clear the roadway and document evidence.
Fatal motorcycle crashes remain a significant concern for law enforcement agencies, particularly during overnight hours when visibility can be reduced and traffic conditions vary. Investigators routinely examine contributing factors such as roadway design, lighting, speed, and driver behavior when evaluating serious or fatal incidents.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have information about the motorcycle or driver involved to contact the San Antonio Police Department. Tips from the public can assist investigators in identifying the individual who left the scene and in reconstructing the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
At this time, no arrests have been announced. Authorities continue to follow up on leads and review any available surveillance footage from nearby businesses or traffic cameras in the area.
Under Texas law, a driver involved in a crash resulting in serious bodily injury or death is required to immediately stop, remain at the scene, and render reasonable aid, including calling for emergency assistance. If investigators determine the driver knowingly left the scene after the fatal incident, the individual could face a charge of Failure to Stop and Render Aid, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison. Depending on the findings of the ongoing investigation, additional charges such as manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide could also be considered if evidence shows reckless or negligent conduct contributed to the death. Authorities have not announced any charges at this time.
The case remains open as investigators work to determine all contributing factors.
