ME Man Dylan Sanphy ID’d As Victim In Tuesday Poland Fatal Jeep Crash

ANDROSCOGGIN COUNTY, ME. (THECOUNT) — Dylan Sanphy, 26, has been identified as the driver killed in a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon on Plains Road, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office. Edward Morris, 52, of Mechanic Falls, has been identified as the other involved driver.

Authorities say Sanphy was operating a gray 2016 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Plains Road at approximately 3:40 p.m. when he attempted to pass another vehicle. During the maneuver, the Jeep collided head-on with a silver 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 operated by Morris.

Morris was towing a snowmobile trailer at the time of the crash. Investigators say the impact between the two vehicles was severe, resulting in both being declared totaled at the scene.

Sanphy was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency personnel. Two female passengers riding in the Jeep were transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where they were treated for what officials described as serious but unspecified injuries.

Morris did not require hospitalization following the collision, according to the sheriff’s office.

The crash forced a temporary closure of Plains Road between Cobb and Bailey Hill roads while rescue crews worked the scene.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Wednesday morning that the crash remains under active investigation. Deputies are currently seeking to identify and speak with the driver of a Subaru that Sanphy was attempting to pass immediately before the fatal collision occurred.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding road conditions, speed, or other contributing factors as investigators continue to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the deadly crash.

Plains Road, a rural roadway that runs through parts of Androscoggin County, is known for stretches where passing zones can quickly transition into limited visibility areas. Law enforcement officials routinely caution drivers to use extreme care when attempting to overtake other vehicles on two-lane roads, particularly where sightlines may be compromised by curves, elevation changes, or oncoming traffic.

Crash investigators will analyze vehicle positioning, damage patterns, and any available witness statements as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The identities of the two injured passengers have not been released. Their current conditions have also not been disclosed.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have information regarding the Subaru involved in the passing maneuver to contact the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
