Sarah Jane Robinson ID’d As Pedestrian In Friday Winston-Salem Fatal Vehicle Strike

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (THECOUNT) — Sarah Jane Robinson, 65, has been identified as the woman who was killed Friday night after being struck by a pickup truck while walking in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

Police said officers responded at approximately 8:33 p.m. to the 2800 block of New Walkertown Road following a report of a crash involving a pedestrian in the roadway. Upon arrival, officers located Robinson lying in the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene by responding personnel.

Investigators reported that Robinson was walking west in the westbound lanes of New Walkertown Road when a pickup truck traveling in the same lanes struck her. Authorities have not released details regarding the driver of the vehicle or whether any charges are expected at this time.

The Winston-Salem Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit is leading the investigation into the fatal pedestrian crash. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including potential contributing factors such as lighting conditions, visibility, and roadway conditions. Officers are reviewing evidence from the scene and may collect witness statements, vehicle data, and surveillance footage as part of standard investigative procedures.

New Walkertown Road is a heavily traveled corridor in Winston-Salem and is known for residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and local traffic congestion. Police officials noted that pedestrian safety is a priority along the roadway, which includes multiple intersections, crosswalks, and residential driveways.

Investigators often reconstruct fatal pedestrian crashes using measurements, vehicle data, and traffic patterns to understand how collisions occur. The WSPD Traffic Enforcement Unit routinely examines factors such as speed limits, right-of-way compliance, and vehicle dynamics to determine how such accidents can be prevented in the future.

Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. They have not indicated whether additional safety warnings, citations, or charges will result from the crash. Police officials ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Winston-Salem Police Department.

Pedestrian safety remains a critical concern across Winston-Salem, and authorities encourage both drivers and pedestrians to remain vigilant. Residents are advised to follow posted speed limits, avoid distractions while driving, use crosswalks when available, and ensure pedestrians are clearly visible, especially at night or in low-light conditions.

Robinson’s death marks another reminder of the importance of traffic safety enforcement and the risks pedestrians face in high-traffic areas. Police continue to emphasize that investigations into fatal crashes are conducted thoroughly to establish facts, identify potential contributing factors, and provide accountability where necessary.

The Winston-Salem Police Department, along with other local law enforcement agencies, routinely issues guidance for pedestrian safety and driver awareness in North Carolina. The department’s efforts are aimed at reducing fatal accidents and preventing further loss of life on city streets.

The investigation into Robinson’s death remains active as authorities continue to gather evidence, reconstruct the collision, and evaluate all factors involved. Police stress that community cooperation is vital for completing accurate and thorough investigations.
