ELKHART COUNTY, IN. (THECOUNT) —JayDee Miller, a 17-year-old passenger from Elkhart, Indiana, was killed Sunday night after a minivan slid into the path of a semi-truck during poor weather conditions in Elkhart County, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. on State Road 13 south of County Road 38. Authorities reported that the minivan lost control and entered the southbound lane, where it was struck by a semi-truck traveling in that direction.
Miller was riding as a passenger in the minivan at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the collision, sheriff’s officials confirmed.
The driver of the minivan, also 17 years old, was transported to a local hospital with a minor head injury. The extent of treatment provided to the driver was not further detailed by authorities.
The semi-truck driver involved in the crash was not injured. No information was released regarding whether the semi was hauling a load at the time of the collision.
Investigators said weather conditions were a contributing factor in the crash. While specific details about precipitation or road surface conditions were not released, officials indicated that adverse weather caused the minivan to slide before entering the semi-truck’s path.
