AL Teen Leslee Weaver ID’d As Victim In Friday Tuscumbia Fatal Crash

CULBERT COUNTY, AL. (THECOUNT)Leslee James Edward Weaver, a 19-year-old Cherokee man, has died following a single-vehicle crash Friday night near Tuscumbia, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

State troopers say the crash occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, near the 21-mile marker of U.S. Highway 72, about one mile west of Tuscumbia in Culbert County. Authorities say Weaver was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned.

Investigators with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division say Weaver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. Emergency responders arrived on scene and transported him to Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield for medical treatment.

Despite life-saving efforts, Weaver later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

ALEA officials have not released additional information regarding what may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. Troopers have not indicated whether speed, roadway conditions, or other contributing factors played a role in the crash.

The section of U.S. Highway 72 where the crash occurred is a heavily traveled east-west route through Colbert County, frequently patrolled by state troopers due to its history of serious and fatal crashes. Investigators spent several hours documenting the scene, examining the vehicle, and collecting evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no charges are expected, as the incident involved a single vehicle. Toxicology results, if conducted, have not been released.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Additional details will be released if they become available.
