LEXINGTON, KY. (THECOUNT.COM) — Roberto Carlos Buffill Paredes, 43, has been charged with murder and related offenses in connection with the fatal stabbing of 29-year-old Anisleys Font Lantaron inside a Lexington, Kentucky apartment, according to authorities.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Lantaron died from stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene following an investigation into the incident, which occurred Thursday at an apartment located on Larkin Road in Lexington, KY.
The coroner confirmed Lantaron’s death has been ruled a homicide. Officials said she suffered fatal stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene following an investigation at a residence on Larkin Road, located in the northeastern area of Lexington in Fayette County.
The Lexington Police Department said officers were dispatched to the apartment around 10:45 a.m. Thursday after receiving a call for service. Upon entering the residence, officers located Lantaron inside, where she was pronounced deceased.
Police arrested 43-year-old Paredes at the scene. Authorities said Paredes faces multiple felony charges, including murder (domestic violence), abuse of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence. He is currently being held in the Fayette County Detention Center.
According to an arrest citation referenced by investigators, Paredes is accused of stabbing Lantaron, who police said is the mother of his child. The citation states that after the stabbing, Paredes allegedly attempted to clean evidence from the apartment.
The arrest document further alleges that Paredes wrapped Lantaron’s body in blankets “in a manner that would outrage ordinary family sensibilities,” language commonly used in Kentucky statutes related to abuse of a corpse.
Police said Paredes admitted to the charges during an interview with investigators following his arrest. No additional details regarding the motive or circumstances leading up to the stabbing have been released by law enforcement.
Paredes is scheduled to appear in Fayette District Court for an arraignment hearing on Friday, Jan. 16, according to court records.
THECOUNT.COM has learned the couple had recently resided in Havana, Cuba, at least until 2021, though officials have not disclosed how long they had been living in Kentucky, their immigration status or the circumstances surrounding their relocation to the Lexington area.
According to publicly available Facebook information, Lantaron spelled her name “Anisleyd Lantaron Font” on social media. Her Facebook profile is set to private. Information visible prior to the account being restricted indicated she had worked at Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment (MINCEX), as well as Customs and Transit Services Company SA and related entities. That information has not been independently confirmed by authorities. Paredes’ Facebook profile says he formerly worked at Cuban state-run company Transcupet, which provides fuel trucked to the country´s service stations. Womy Logistics was also mentioned in the profile.
The investigation remains ongoing. Lexington Police have not announced whether additional charges could be filed or if further suspects are being sought.
