Video Shows Shocking Moment KSU Student Shot Dead By Student Parent Jacob Lee Bard

FRANKFORT, KY. (THECOUNT) –De’Jon Darrell Fox Jr., 19, of Indianapolis, has been identified as the student fatally shot Tuesday on the campus of Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky. The shooting occurred near Whitney M. Young Jr. Hall, a residence hall on the campus, and left one other student critically injured, according to officials.

Frankfort police identified the accused gunman as Jacob Lee Bard, 48, of Evansville, Indiana. Officials confirmed that Bard is the father of another Kentucky State University student. According to law enforcement, Bard was taken into custody shortly after the shooting by university police officers who were already present on campus at the time of the incident.

Authorities said Fox, who was enrolled at the university, was transported from the scene to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:33 p.m. Eastern Time. A second victim, whose identity has not been publicly released, remains hospitalized in critical condition. No additional medical details have been provided by investigators or hospital personnel.

Bard has been charged with murder and first-degree assault. He remains in custody while the investigation continues. Officials have not provided information regarding upcoming court dates or whether Bard has obtained legal representation.

According to an arrest citation released by authorities, Bard was allegedly “involved in a physical altercation” on campus before drawing a firearm and shooting both Fox and the second victim. While investigators have not publicly released further details about the events leading up to the shooting, family members of Fox and students who witnessed the encounter told officials that a fight involving Bard’s son and the two victims escalated into the deadly confrontation. Law enforcement has not confirmed additional elements of those witness accounts.

The shooting prompted an immediate lockdown response from campus safety personnel and Frankfort police. University officials later issued a statement announcing that all classes, final examinations and campus activities were suspended for the remainder of the week. The school also informed students they could return home if they chose to do so, with further guidance expected to be provided as the university assesses the situation.

Tuesday’s fatal shooting marks the second violent incident on the Kentucky State University campus in the past four months. In August, two individuals were injured after shots were fired from a passing vehicle near Whitney M. Young Jr. Hall. In that case, officials confirmed that neither person injured was a student or employee of the university. No connection between the two incidents has been identified by investigators at this time.

Authorities in Frankfort continue to review evidence, interview witnesses and gather additional information related to Tuesday’s shooting. No further updates have been released regarding a possible motive. The investigation remains active, with assistance from university police and other local law enforcement agencies.
