MEMPHIS, TN. (THECOUNT) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has identified the individual who was killed in an officer-involved shooting in McNairy County on Saturday as 39-year-old Daniel Jeremiah Holmes. Just after 3:00 p.m. Saturday, officers with the Selmer Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person outside a residence in the 100 block of New Bethel Road.
The TBI stated that preliminary information indicated that when the first officer arrived, he encountered Holmes. According to reports, Holmes allegedly attacked the officer before firing several shots, which resulted in the officer being struck and fatally wounded. In response to this deadly attack, a second officer arrived at the location. This officer then returned fire, striking Holmes, who was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
Public records show a farm in Ripley, Tennessee, as Holmes last known address. Public records also show he had ties to Jesup and Dublin, Georgia.
