Johnny Carson Regular George ‘The Amazing Kreskin’ Kresge Passes Away

ROSELAND, NJ. (THECOUNT) — The Amazing Kreskin — the world-renowned mentalist best known for his many performances on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson,” — has died, according to a statement on his social media. He was 89.

Kreskin’s social media accounts posted a statement on Tuesday indicating that he passed away during the holiday season.

The post noted that Kreskin decorated his home extensively for the holidays, featuring numerous decorations and multiple Christmas trees, and hosted elaborate Christmas parties where he would perform “Ave Maria.”

The statement concluded in the manner Kreskin ended his shows, stating this was not a true goodbye but rather “To be continued.”

Ryan Galway, Kreskin’s manager, confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter, stating that Kreskin died at his New Jersey home on Tuesday. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Kreskin, whose real name was George Kresge, gained fame in the 1960s and ’70s through numerous television appearances on shows like “The Mike Douglas Show,” “The Merv Griffin Show,” and his own syndicated program, “The Amazing World of Kreskin.”

He was particularly remembered for his performances on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson,” where he showcased his mentalist skills in 88 appearances over the years.

Kreskin claimed that Carson’s character, Carnac the Magnificent, was based on him, portraying a clairvoyant with a turban who humorously predicted answers to questions inside envelopes. However, there were counter-arguments suggesting Carson drew inspiration from an old Steve Allen sketch.

Throughout his career, Kreskin performed globally, authored several books, provided mental training for boxers, and launched a dating website aimed at those interested in the supernatural. Despite these ventures, he always clarified that his performances were those of a mentalist, not involving occult magic.
