ROME, GA. (THECOUNT) A motorist, identified as 66-year-old Tammie Pickelsimer, was killed as police responded to a bomb threat at the Georgia home of U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, according to authorities.
A police officer from the local bomb squad was en route to the scene when he collided with another vehicle on Monday, as stated by Rome police.
The bomb threat was communicated via an email warning of a pipe bomb in Greene’s mailbox and mentioning Palestine. This email was sent to the assistant police chief.
The police response was initiated following this threat, as reported by Greene on social media. The email’s origin was traced back to a Russian IP address, she further noted.
This incident represents another case of “swatting,” where false threats are used to provoke responses from emergency services at her home, according to Greene. She has experienced this at least nine times.
“These violent political threats have fatal consequences,” Greene stated on the social media platform X, describing the crime as a “despicable act.”
“The perpetrator of this crime has committed murder in our small community of Rome, Georgia,” she added.
The officer involved was driving his personal vehicle to assist the bomb squad. He sustained injuries in the accident, though the severity was not immediately known as of Tuesday.
“I’m sick to my stomach, but I’m also angry,” Greene remarked. “This should have never happened and I pray it never happens again.”
