FORT WALTON BEACH, FL. (THECOUNT) — A tragic motorcycle crash in Fort Walton Beach early Thursday morning claimed the lives of Scott Morris, 28, of Destin, and Elizabeth Fletcher, 28, of Valparaiso.
The fatal accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Brooks Street SE and Waynel Circle SE. According to the Fort Walton Beach Police Department, Morris and Fletcher were traveling eastbound on Brooks Street when their motorcycle collided with a cinder block mailbox, causing the vehicle to catch fire.
Crash and Emergency Response
Responding officers arrived to find the motorcycle engulfed in flames. Police extinguished the fire and attempted to render aid to Morris and Fletcher, who were lying on the ground near the crash site.
Authorities confirmed that Morris was pronounced dead at the scene. Fletcher was rushed to Florida HCA Fort Walton-Destin Hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
Ongoing Investigation
The Fort Walton Beach Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit is actively investigating the circumstances leading to the crash. Preliminary reports did not indicate any additional vehicles were involved, but authorities have not yet released further details regarding potential contributing factors such as speed, road conditions, or impairment.
