OH Man Mark Hardin ID’d As Victim In Thursday Fairborn Fatal Motorcycle Crash

FAIRBORN, OH. (THECOUNT) — Mark Hardin, of Dayton, Ohio, was identified Friday as the man killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Fairborn, Greene County, the Greene County Coroner’s Office confirmed. Hardin was 40.

The crash occurred Thursday evening in the 300 block of North Broad Street, also known as State Route 235, in Fairborn. According to Sgt. Joseph Walton of the Fairborn Police Department, Hardin was the sole rider involved when his motorcycle struck a pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene. AES crews also responded to evaluate damage to the utility pole.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Fairborn Police Department.

Fairborn is a city in Greene County in southwest Ohio, located approximately 15 miles east of Dayton and directly adjacent to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, one of the largest and most important military installations in the United States. The city has a population of approximately 35,000 residents and serves as a hub for both military personnel and civilians working in the greater Dayton metropolitan area.

North Broad Street, designated State Route 235, is one of Fairborn’s primary north-south corridors, running through the commercial and residential heart of the city. The 300 block sits within a well-traveled stretch of roadway that sees significant daily traffic volume from both local residents and those commuting to and from Wright-Patterson.

Greene County is located in the Miami Valley region of southwest Ohio. The county seat is Xenia, located approximately seven miles southeast of Fairborn. The broader Greene County area is part of the Dayton metropolitan statistical area, one of the largest population centers in Ohio.

Motorcycle fatalities remain a serious public safety concern in Ohio and across the nation. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcyclists are significantly more vulnerable in crashes than occupants of enclosed vehicles due to the lack of structural protection. Single-vehicle crashes account for a substantial portion of motorcycle fatalities each year, often involving road hazards, loss of control, or collisions with fixed objects such as poles, guardrails, and barriers.

Hardin was a resident of Dayton, Ohio, the largest city in Montgomery County and a major urban center in the Miami Valley region. Dayton is located approximately 15 miles west of Fairborn via Interstate 675 and U.S. Route 35, two of the primary connecting corridors between the two cities.

The Greene County Coroner’s Office made the formal identification of Hardin on Friday, the day following the crash. The coroner’s office is responsible for determining the official cause and manner of death in cases involving sudden, unexpected, or violent fatalities in Greene County.

The Fairborn Police Department is continuing its investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash. Authorities have not released additional details regarding speed, road conditions, or any other contributing factors at this time.
