FLINT, MI. (THECOUNT) — Dr. Simranpal Singh Deol, a 33-year-old Family Medicine physician with McLaren Flint Hospital, in Flint, Michigan, has been identified as the victim in a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon near the hospital campus.
According to the Flint Police Department, Deol was riding a yellow motorcycle eastbound on Sunset Drive at a high rate of speed when an Oldsmobile sedan made a left turn into his path at approximately 12:15 p.m. The collision occurred at Brentwood Drive, just a block from McLaren Flint Hospital.
Authorities say Deol was thrown from his motorcycle upon impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Oldsmobile, who has not been identified, reported no injuries.
Investigation Details
Preliminary investigations indicate that intoxication was not a factor in the crash. Sunset Drive was closed for several hours while investigators from the Flint Police Department and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office examined the scene. “It is with profound sadness that we learned of today’s tragic passing of Dr. Simranpal Deol, a physician in our family medicine residency program. Dr. Deol was deeply respected and valued by his colleagues, patients, and advisors, all of whom are mourning his untimely passing.
Our most sincere and deepest sympathies are with his family, loved ones, and those who worked closely with him. Dr. Deol committed his life to the care of others through the practice of medicine, a noble calling he will be remembered for and mourned by McLaren and the community he served.
Many within McLaren may struggle with this tragic and sudden loss. We are making counselors and additional resources available to all staff who are struggling with Dr. Deol’s passing and have asked everyone to take the time to check in with their colleagues as we collectively cope during this difficult time.”
