NEWBURY PARK, CA. (THECOUNT) — A tragic incident unfolded early Friday morning in Newbury Park, resulting in the deaths of two men in what authorities are investigating as a murder-suicide.
At approximately 6:30 a.m., the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office responded to a townhome in the 100 block of Jerome Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies found a 33-year-old man deceased and a 30-year-old man who had been shot. The injured man was transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, according to VCSO.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Capt. Dean Worthy confirmed that there was a single shooter, believed to be the 33-year-old man, who subsequently took his own life. “I can absolutely, unequivocally say that there is no threat to the community,” Worthy assured. “There is no outstanding suspect that we’re looking for.”
Multiple neighbors speculated that the incident involved a love triangle, although Capt. Worthy declined to comment on the specific circumstances or the relationship between the two men.
The 911 call was made by a 31-year-old woman who resides in the townhome, authorities said.
