VACAVILLE, CA. (THECOUNT) — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has identified the driver involved in the fatal crash that claimed the life of Vacaville Police Officer Matthew Bowen on Leisure Town Road. The driver, 24-year-old Serena C.J. Rodriguez of Auburn, is facing homicide and DUI charges. According to CHP, Rodriguez was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
Witnesses at the scene detained Rodriguez as she attempted to flee after striking Officer Bowen. The intersection of Leisure Town Road and Orange Drive has been closed for an ongoing investigation, with no estimated time for reopening. Additionally, the westbound freeway onramp near the crash site remained closed as of Thursday night.
