SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY. (THECOUNT) — Louis and Renee Deritis, of Oakdale, New York, have been identified as the victims in an overnight double-fatal boat crash in Suffolk County.

Husband and wife, Louis, 53, and Renee, 50, were both killed in a two-vessel boating crash in Great South Bay Sunday night.

According to local reports, Louis was operating a 27-foot 1989 OC/MA boat when it collided with a 44-foot 1989 Henriques Sport Fisherman, operated by Ferdinand Caravousanos, 61, of West Babylon, in the Great South Bay, north of Ocean Bay Park, between North Channel and Range Channel, at approximately 10:40 p.m.

The collision caused the OC/MA boat to capsize, ejecting Louis into the water. He was later located deceased. Renee was found in the vessel’s cabin by fire department rescue divers. She was pronounced dead by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Caravousanos and his passengers were not injured in the crash.

Both vessels were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
