SAINT LOUIS COUNTY, MO. (THECOUNT) — James Kenyon Heitman of Saint Louis, Missouri, has been identified as the victim in a Wednesday night fatal vehicle crash in Saint Louis County.

Heitman, 32, an Assistant Circuit Attorney with the office of St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardener, was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday evening.

According to reports, Heitman was operating a vehicle on Interstate 270 in Saint Louis, when the vehicle failed to reduce speed for slow moving traffic around 5 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle came into rear-end contact causing a fiery chain reaction collision involving at least three vehicles.

Further details of the wreck were not provided as of Thursday morning.

Gardner released the following statement:

“I’m shocked and saddened to announce that one of our dedicated ACA’s, Mr. James Heitman, died in a car accident last night. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and his CAO family at this tragic time.”

Heitman, who was newly married in 2022, was with the Attorney’s Office since June 2020. His position was handling general felonies.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
