STANTON COUNTY, NE. (THECOUNT) — Ramiro Hernandez-Tziquin and Domingo Zetino-Hernandez, two Honduran nationals living in Stanton County, Nebraska, were charged with allegedly killing an American bald eagle.
According to officials, the 20-year-old men planned on cooking and eating the iconic bird.
Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, deputies received a report of a suspicious vehicle near the Wood Duck State Wildlife Management Area in Stanton. When they arrived, deputies found the vehicle in a field and discovered two men in possession of a deceased American bald eagle.
Authorities allege the pair had shot and killed the bird in the Stanton area.
Nebraska Game and Parks was contacted and took custody of the eagle and the rifle used to kill it.
The men were cited for unlawful possession of the eagle. Hernandez-Tziquin was also cited for having no driver’s license.
The sheriff’s office says more serious charges are possible as the investigation continues.
